Soda can be a refreshing drink on a hot and sunny day. Kids love and enjoy sodas and many people even consume it with their meal. The high amount of sugar present in soda weakens tooth enamel and destroys your teeth. However, sugar is just a part that makes the drink extremely dangerous for your teeth. Teeth are usually covered by a layer of bacteria or plaque. These bacteria are fed on the sugar that you drink and eat. Bacteria metabolize sugar and create acid as its byproducts. - Take other drinks than soda – You should take drinks that contain less sugar and acid. This includes milk and fruit juice that are good for your health. It is advisable that you do not take more than one drink in a day. This will prevent your teeth from any kind of damage.
- Use fluoride toothpaste and rinse – Using Fluoride toothpaste will enable you to decrease cavities and strengthen tooth enamel. As such, brush your teeth with Fluoride toothpaste after you take any food. Your dentist may also ask you to use mouthwash depending on your teeth condition.
- Rinse with water – After you consume soft drink, rinse your mouth properly after drinking soda. Flushing your mouth with water will help to wash away residues, acids and stop from attacking your teeth.
- Avoid brushing after drinking soda – You should not brush your pearly whites immediately after drinking soda. This is because the friction against acid-attacked teeth may cause harm to the tooth enamel. As such, wait for at least 30 minutes before you decide to brush.
- Do not take drink before bedtime – You should try not to take soft drinks before going to bed. Sugar and acid may attack your teeth throughout the night and cause more harm to them.
